Our District has launched the District 51 Public Relations Award 2008 - 2009:
To encourage and to recognize clubs/areas/divisions which utilize newsletter and website as public relations tools to promote the Toastmasters program to members and public. Newsletter and website are two very powerful tools recommended by Toastmasters International.
Eligibility:
Any club in District 51 which is in good standing, during the entire qualifying period, can participate.
Qualifying Period:
Jul 1, 2008 - March 31, 2009 (awards to be given during 2009 annual convention)
Awards Categories:
Best Club Newsletter Award
Platinum Page (1st placing)
Prizes: Gold-Tone trophy cup (large) for editor and 8 large Toastmasters membership pins for club
Golden Page (2nd placing)
Prizes: Gold-Tone trophy club (medium) for editor and 5 large Toastmasters membership pins for club
Silver Page (3rd placing)
Prizes: Gold-Tone trophy cup (small) for editor and 3 large Toastmasters membership pins for club
Best Area/Division Newsletter Award
Platinum Scroll (1st placing)
Prizes: Gold-Tone trophy cup (large) for editor and 6 outstanding member pins for area/division
Golden Scroll (2nd placing)
Prizes: Gold-Tone trophy club (medium) for editor and 3 outstanding member pins for area/division

Judging Criteria
1. Judging is based on the information in the "When You Are the Vice President Public Relations" manual, section "Produce a Club Newsletter and/or Web Site" (page 10-14). The judges will look for the newsletters in District 51 that best meet the criteria.
2. Judging will be based on point system. Total maximum point that can be awarded to each entry is 100 points. Winners will be chosen based on those who score the highest points, the second highest and so on …
3. For newsletter, here’s the breakdown of the maximum number of points that can be given for each judging category:
Content - 60%
Design and Layout - 40%
Total - 100%
4. For website, here’s the breakdown of the maximum number of points that can be given for each judging category:
Content - 60%
Design and Layout - 30%
Bonus Points (for early submission of website link (URL) by 31 Oct 2008) - 10%
Total - 100%

How to participate?
1) To participate, send an email to the district public relations officer (DPRO) at d51pro0809@gmail.com on your intention.
2) All entries must reach the DPRO by 31st March 2009. Late entries will not be entertained.
3) If you are participating in the website category:
a. Please send in the URL (address) of the website, to be included as a link from the district website, to the DPRO email starting from now. To encourage early submission, bonus points (10%) will be given to clubs for early submission of the website URL by Oct 31st 2008.
4) If you are participating in the newsletter category:
a. Please send in the newsletter in softcopy format to the DPRO email.
b. You are required to send in a minimum of 2 editions/issues during the qualifying period. The more editions/issues you submit the higher the chances of winning as we will select the best of all the editions/issues you submitted. However each club can only win one prize.
